Recipe of the Month - Peanut Butter Balls!!!!

Peanut Butter Balls

1 cup peanut butter (I used crunchy)
3/4 cup margarine (next time I think I might reduce it to 1/2 cup)
Melt these in a saucepan.

In another bowl combine 1 1/2 cups of Rice Krispies and 1 1/2 cups of icing sugar.

Once the peanut butter mixture is melted pour over the Rice Krispies and mix it up good.  Then make little balls and place them on a baking sheet lined with wax paper.  Place in the fridge/freezer for a few hours up to overnight.

Then melt some chocolate - you choose (semi sweet, milk or dark).  I had milk chocolate wafers.  I melted them in a double boiler with a little olive oil just to keep it nice and smooth.  Dip or roll the balls in the chocolate and place back on the baking sheet to cool.  Put back in fridge/freezer and then eat!!!  So yummy!!!

WWMD?

At 4am as I tumbled out of bed to respond to Taylor's crying I started to think, "What Would Mary Do?"  Every night I am up with that boy at least once to change his diaper and feed him.  Some times I get so frustrated because all I want to do is sleep!  And then I begin to think, what would it have been like for Mary to raise the son of God?  Did she get frustrated with Jesus at 4am when he was crying?  Did she lose her temper with him when she felt pushed to the edge?  Did she know that she had the biggest responsibility in the world to raise God's one and only son?

To be honest I don't know how she did it or how she felt.  I really wish that the Bible gave us more info, cause some days I could really use some help with being a parent!  Some days I don't know how I'm going to make it through the day (maybe that's why I've begun to drink coffee!).  How did Mary do it?  We know that Jesus had other brothers and sisters - did they get along?  Did they bug each other?  Did Jesus ever have a tantrum?  We know he was perfect and without sin, does that mean he argued with his mom or yelled or cried?  I have so many questions and so little answers!  Do any of you who read this have any answers?  I think these will be some of the questions that I ask when I get to heaven!

I guess with Christmas here I started thinking about Mary and the fact that all we really know is that she treasured all these things in her heart.  I really need to learn to treasure more things - especially the challenging.  It's easy to treasure the good things, but some days are just not good!  I think that may be something I will work on in the new year is finding more and more good things in my day, they're probably there, I just have to look!!!!

I'll leave you with those thoughts.  Have a wonderful Christmas and a joyful New Year!!!

Getting my craft on 2

While making these awesome bibs for Taylor a friend forwarded me this awesome site - Make it and Love it.  I saw this super cute tutorial on these Cloth Baby Rings.  Well, mine took me way longer to make than I thought they would, but they turned out and I may just make some for some friends if I can get my butt in gear!  Here's how mine turned out!

Start out with some tubes of fabric (notice in this picture
there are four, but by the end there are only three!  That blue
one just didn't want to turn inside out!).

You stuff them with  batting and sew them up...

Totally machine washable so he can chew on them all
he wants!

Getting my craft on

So, for some reason I was totally inspired to start sewing and crafting.  Where did this come from?  I don't know.  All I know is that Taylor drools non stop from morning till night.  He goes through a few bibs a day and they get really smelly.  I saw a girl on Facebook who sews these cute little handkerchiefs for boys.  So, I thought to myself, "self, you can sew and you have scraps of fabric, why not make some of your own".  So out came them sewing supplies and I got to work.

Here are some photos of that work.
Start off with a square (my first attempt was an 11x11)
and then you cut it in half so you have two triangles.

Hem up the edges all pretty like.

Et voila a handkerchief!

The first time around I was a little lazy and thought I would use Velcro.  All I had was sticky Velcro so I attached it and it worked until I washed it and it came off in the wash!  So I thought I'll put snaps on.  I found a package of snaps at the 99 cent store here.  Sadly they did not work either.  So then I thought why not make it a little bigger and then tie it in the back.  I made this one 15x15 and it works!

Since I have all kinds of fabric scraps, I will make a few more as they are pretty easy to do!  Yeah for a success!

What A Day

The other day was terrible.  I'm not sure what was going on, but my kids were annoying me and I was just needing some space.  Taylor has been teething molars since he was three months old.  They come up and then they go down.  Then Makayla was just having toddler attitude.  I was feeling overwhelmed with taking care of the kids, the pets, the house, etc and just feeling a little alone.  Feeling tired all day doesn't really help much either.

Since we've been back from BC, Makayla has had this cough that just won't go away.  She's up once or twice in the middle of the night coughing up a lung (or so it seems) and then because she is coughing she's been drinking more water which means she needs diaper changes more frequent as well.  So needless to say the last four weeks she hasn't been sleeping well and neither have I.  Taylor too was doing great sleeping completely through the night and then we went to BC and now he's up at least once but usually twice in the night to eat.  Phil never seems to hear either of them (interesting, right?), he's just a heavy sleeper!  The other night, between the two kids I was up 8 times.  By 6:30 am I couldn't do it anymore and woke Phil up to go and deal with Makayla.  Wow, that was a bad night.

We also have two guys that work with Phil that are rooming in the basement here.  I like them and they're good guys and great with the kids but some days they are all here and I just feel that I need space - my own space, less testosterone and more estrogen!!!  So, I was having a bad day and nothing was going the way I wanted it to.  I was getting really frustrated with God too, cause it felt like the more I prayed for my kids the more they would wake up.  So as soon as they went down to nap I got out my devotion book to have a little read.  That specific devotion was on giving thanks in all circumstances.  How does one give thanks at 3am when awakened by a crying baby?  How does one give thanks when her kids refuse to nap and she just needs a minute to herself?  How does one give thanks when her toddler will only eat noodles and will refuse any other food placed in front of her?  I was having a really hard time with giving thanks in all circumstances.  So I had a little chat with God, had a little cry and got on with the day, as tiring as it was.

But God must have had something up his sleeve, because the next day Phil worked a double shift (approximately 7am until 11pm), one of the roommates also worked a double shift and the other one was out all morning and then worked the evening, which meant the kids and I had some space and we could just chill.  It was a much better day than the day before.  I am trying to take things one day at a time.  Some days are great, others not good at all.  But through it all I'm learning to attempt to give thanks in all circumstances... cause that's what the Bible says, and so that's what I'm going to try and do.  It's not easy and I'm really struggling with it, but I know that there's a lesson to be learned and I'm going to try my hardest to be faithful and keep on keeping on!

PS - things have been so up and down around here it's taken me about 5 days to get this posted!

Our Island Adventure

Well, it's been over a week since we've been back from our brief weekend trip to Vancouver Island.  Our flight was to leave on Friday morning at 7am and so we thought we'd head up to Grande Prairie on Thursday, do some shopping and stay the night.  All went well on Thursday and we managed to get some Christmas shopping done too.  We were up at 5am to get the kids together and us to the airport on time.  We got there and the line up was huge!  It took us awhile to get our tickets and then Phil said goodbye as we went through security.  We got on the plane and everything was going well.  Taylor ate a little and fell asleep.  About half way through our short 43 minute flight Makayla got motion sick (all down the front of her sweater).  I managed to get her cleaned up and we landed shortly after that.  We packed all our stuff and headed to our next flight.  We had enough time to grab some drinks and a muffin at Timmy's, change a few diapers and got on the next flight.  The flight from Edmonton to Abbotsford was about an hour and a half.  The kids did great until we landed.  Makayla really did not enjoy the landing part and practically put holes in my arm by grabbing so hard.  As soon as the seat belt sign went off and everyone was standing up she started to cry.  I got her down and she just stood there and vomited all over the seat, the floor, Taylor and myself.  Thank goodness there was no one sitting by us and we were able to get our luggage, but I felt so bad for all the people who had to witness that.  One kind lady grabbed some clothes and cleaned up Mak while on of the flight attendants held Taylor.  Makayla was a little upset that someone else was holding Taylor, but I couldn't do it all.  My parents were there waiting so we got our luggage, grabbed fresh clothes, got everyone changed and got in the car to head to the ferry.  We made a quick stop at a drug store to get some children's Gravol and made our way to the ferry.  Oh, and when Makayla woke up that morning she had a fever... we were off to a great start!

We made our way to the ferry and had about an hour to chill.  We walked around, Grandpa bought Gelato and shared it with Makayla (that was about the only thing she'd eaten all day) and I managed to give her a little Gravol as I didn't know how she would take the boat ride.  She had fun on the boat as she saw lots of pictures of whales and dolphins.  We made it to the Island and got settled at this cute little cabin.  We then wen to my aunt's who lived just down the street and had a nice family dinner with some of my cousins and their kids and my grandma and aunts and uncles!  Too bad Makayla was still not feeling well.  She had a fever the whole weekend and was so clingy and I have never seen her cry so much and be so uncomfortable.  We sent my dad to the store for some Children's Tylenol.  Poor little thing.  We headed back to our cabin and got the kids bathed and in bed.

The next morning we got up, went back to my aunts house for breakfast.  Makayla was feeling a little better then and got a chance to play with her second cousins.  It was cute to watch them play and at the end of the weekend she was upset that we had to go and she couldn't play with her friends.  We then went to do some shopping which turned out to be a bust, but I did get a Starbucks coffee!!!  We grabbed some lunch and went back to the cabin to see if the kids would nap a little before we had to take off for the wedding.  Of course they didn't nap!  That meant I had super grumpy kids for the remainder of the day!  We went to the wedding and it was a very simple ceremony.  It was a small wedding and I'm really glad that we could go and support my cousin.  It was also great to see some family that I haven't seen for years.  My cousins took us to this cute little coffee shop and we hung out there for about an hour or so and then made our way to the reception.  Of course they were late starting and there were starving kids everywhere.  We ate, said our goodbyes and took the kids home.  They were foul!  Poor Makayla must have cried for about an hour - she was so hot and uncomfortable and Taylor was just over tired from not napping.  I'm so glad that my parents were there to help out - of course I wouldn't have gone if they weren't going to be there.  The kids went to bed and so did I!

We had to get up early the next morning to get to our ferry.  Seeing that it was the Remembrance Day long weekend the ferry's were really booked.  We managed to get booked on one and you don't want to miss your check in time.  So we got the kids up, grabbed some breakfast and headed out.  The kids did great on the ferry again and Makayla was sad to have to leave the boat with the whales and dolphins.  She also managed to find star fish and seals.  She still talks about the boat and the animals that she found on the boat.  I think I might have pushed the kids a little on the weekend with all that was going on.  We really wanted to do some shopping and we were going to be staying at my aunts house in Surrey so we found a place to have some lunch and then headed to Guilford Mall.  My cousin came and met us there and we walked around for about an hour.  Makayla was just not having any of it and screamed and cried for awhile, so we just gave up and went to my aunts house.  She was finally getting rid of her fever so we just went and chilled out there.  It was nice and relaxing.  It was great to see them and have a nice visit.

The next morning we were up early again to get to the airport on time and my parents were going to attempt the drive all the way to Terrace that day.  It takes about 14 hours with good weather and we could tell that morning that the weather was getting a little ugly.  We made it to the airport, said our goodbyes and got ready for our trip back home!!  I was able to get Makayla to take some Gravol (I love this stuff!) and she was tired and whiny from a busy weekend and lack of sleep.  We were going through security and I had Taylor in an umbrella stroller and the stroller had to go through the scanner.  So Makayla walked through security and I was trying to fold up the stroller and hold Taylor at the same time.  I asked the security lady if she could hold Taylor and she said, "I'm not allowed mame".  The lady behind me offered to hold him and I got my stuff together.  The same lady helped me with my stuff when we got to Edmonton.  They offered to help me all the way out, but I told them I had a connecting flight and I'd be ok - they were so sweet.  We got on the airplane and Makayla was a little apprehensive, "No airplane, mommy" she said.  We got up in the air and after a few whimpers Makayla made herself comfortable and fell asleep.  Taylor fell asleep too.  It was a peaceful trip.  We got off in Edmonton and grabbed some drinks and snacks and got on our last flight to Grande Prairie.  That was a short flight and Mak was still pretty mellow and she just watched tv and Taylor slept.  No messes!!!  It was a good flight.  Daddy was there to greet us when we got off the airplane.  It was snowing and the roads were pretty bad as we headed home.  The drive took awhile but both of the kids slept the whole way.  We got home in time for supper.  We ate and the kids went to bed.

What an adventure.  Of course when you travel by yourself with kids one of them is bound to be sick or have something happen.  We are still getting over whatever it was that Mak had that weekend.  Both of the kids have had runny noses and coughs (Makayla's being the worst) since we've been home.  Hopefully it will pass soon and we'll all be able to sleep through the night again!!  So that was our weekend Island Adventure.

Conversations

The other day Makayla and I were watching TV and there was a baby on.  The conversation goes as follows:
Mom, "Makayla, are you a baby?"
Makayla, "No!"
Mom, "Is Taylor a baby?"
Makayla, "No, Taylor is Taylor"

Then in church on Sunday Makayla was sitting with us through the singing waiting to be dismissed to Kids Church.  Before the kids were dismissed the pastor said he wanted to pray for the kids before they left.  Phil turns to Makayla and tells her it time to pray.  As the whole room was quiet, Makayla turns to Phil and says, "Again".  Ah... the lady in front of us started to laugh and I just about lost it!

Out of the mouths of babes!

Lack of blogging as of late

As I sit at my computer and check others blogs and facebook status' I have nothing to say, about anything.  So, I'll take a few minutes to ramble some things to catch everyone up to speed.

We've been in Grande Cache for a month and a half now.  The weather here today is beautiful (it's gotta be double digits at least).  There is a warm wind and I'm told Chinooks come through here often so the winters are actually pretty mild.  There is snow in the mountains and it's beautiful to look at.  I love that even though it may snow here once and awhile, it usually melts up within the next day or two.  Let's see how the rest of the winter goes!  Makayla and I have been going to swimming lessons since October and she is getting braver and better with the whole swimming thing.  She likes to "play" in the water, she just doesn't like to dunk her face or get her hair wet.  We'll have to solve this problem sooner than later.  A few weeks ago I dunked her pretty good and she proceeded to cry for the next 15 minutes of the lesson - good times!  We are getting to know people and are getting involved in the church here.  I attend a Bible study group every Thursday morning and I am enjoying the conversations and time out of the house.  Phil is enjoying his job and picking up some overtime right now so that he can buy a truck.  I guess out here EVERYONE has a truck!  Phil went hunting this week too... how red neck can you be?  An Asian hunting... hahahaha... I wonder if he'll put a gun rack in the back of his truck?

Taylor turns 6 months next week.  Can you believe it?  Where has the time gone?  He is rolling around, although not rolling completely over.  He loves the jolly jumper and his saucer.  He is a pretty happy baby except for when people aren't paying attention to him or it's time to go to bed.  I'm slowly learning his baby language and we're getting there!  He's been eating solids for a little while now and is doing pretty good.  He's a big boy - I'm pretty sure he weighs more than Makayla now!

I'm getting tired of Makayla's toddler tantrums and whining.  She knows how to push my buttons and I often think she has selective hearing!  I'm pretty sure many kids have selective hearing!  When she's (not annoying me) playing and drawing she's a happy kid!  It's fun to see her and Taylor start to interact.  Taylor loves Makayla and the two of them have some pretty good laugh fests!  I enjoy those moments, cause I know that fighting is just around the corner!  Makayla's been super great with Taylor and she brings him toys and wants to share with him.  I like that too.  I am trying to enjoy those good moments and forget the bad/ugly ones!

Next week the kids and I are off to my cousins wedding in Naniamo.  We are leaving EARLY (like 7am flight early - we usually don't get out of bed around here till after 8 - it's gonna be a rough one!) to fly to Abbotsford where my mom and dad are going to pick us up.  We will get on the ferry and head over to the Island.  We'll chill with family on Friday and then the wedding is on Saturday.  Sunday we pack up and head back to Surrey where we'll stay with my aunt.  Then we leave early Monday morning to head back.  Phil's working all weekend, so it'll be just me and the kiddos.  I'm excited and terrified all at the same time.  I've flown with Makayla twice and she did great both times.  Now to fly with her and Taylor should prove to be interesting.  We will fly from Grande Prairie to Edmonton and then from there to Abbotsford and the same thing on the way back.  I tried to plan it so we wouldn't have huge layovers.  The worst thing is entertaining kids in an airport.  The last time I flew with Makayla our flight out of Vancouver was delayed and it made for a missed nap and a grumpy little girl (that'd be me!!).  Our layovers are an hour each time.  So by the time we're the last ones off and the first ones back on, we'll be doing great!   I'll update you on the trip when we get back and I'll post pictures too!

I feel like all I do is ramble some days.  I've sent a few emails in the past week and they seem so disjointed and random.  Between making meals, being interrupted by kids and life, I feel like all I do is ramble and nothing makes sense.  My brain is in a fog these days.  So, I think that's why I haven't blogged in awhile.  I didn't want you have to read the ramblings, but here they are anyways!

I'm going to wrap this up and trust that everyone is doing well.  Thanks for checking in on the Yee's!

Jasper Review

Phil had a few extra days off last week and we found a deal through Travel Alberta Magazine so we thought we'd take the family and get away for a few days.  We booked a room at the Best Western.  We had a pretty sweet room with a kitchenette and a pull out bed with a loft and a Queen size bed up there (although we think the bed was a double - it felt super small).  We left on Wednesday morning and headed out (the trip is about two hours long).  We made it to Hinton for lunch, did some shopping at Walmart and walked around their little mall.  We got into Jasper around 4pm (just in time to check in!).

We were able to spot some wildlife along the way...

We got settled in our room and got ready to go explore the town and find a place for dinner.  We walked through some gift shops and found some neat little Jasper things.  We found some neat photo ops too!

We had dinner at Jasper Pizza Place.  It was pretty good and it got busier and busier the longer we were there.  Good service and good food, also a good place for kids.  After dinner we headed back to our hotel to try out the pool.  It was fun but it was a little cold!  The kids played in the water and then we scored a few minutes in the hot tub to warm up!  Everyone went to bed after a long full day!

The next day we got up, had our breakfast and checked out.  We saw a sign for Pyramid and Patricia Lakes so we went for a little drive.  There are two beautiful lakes just minutes outside of the town of Jasper.

Can you spot the flying rocks?

We walked around the town some more, took a few more pictures and bought a few little things along the way.

Overall we had a great time!  We can't wait to go back (maybe bring some friends who can babysit for us so we can do some hiking or wildlife watching).  We are looking forward to meeting some friends there this winter to do some skiing/snowboarding!  Can't wait.

Jasper is so cute and quiet.  The funny thing is that come the fall a lot of things close down.  The hotspings are closed, the tramway is closed and a few restaurants and shops were closed.  I guess skiing season isn't as big as I thought it was.  Even some lodging places are closed as well.  So, if you're going to go and want to experience some things, I guess you need to go in the spring/summer!

I guess we tired her out!

Can't wait to go back!
