A Good Read

I am really bad with starting some things and not finishing them. For instance, my mom gave me an animal cross stitch about 7 years ago for Christmas. I said that I would work on it and for sure have it finished by the time we had our first kid. Well, I worked really hard to finish before Makayla arrived and got so close but never got it done. I saw it sitting there the other day and just decided to sit down the other night and finish it up. And I did! Only took me 7 years! I also find a lot of books that interest me and I buy them (a great perk from my work too) and so I have a whole lot of books that look good and I have good intentions on reading. I usually get through the first chapter or so and then put it down and pick up something else.

I started a book when Makayla was born and have picked it up to finish it and boy, is it a good read! The book is called Sacred Parenting, by Gary Thomas. It focuses on how parents change because of the things that their children teach them. I have begun to look at parenting in a whole new light. The other day it was talking about how being a parent is a calling and that then becomes our ministry. I had never thought of it like that before. I always thought that ministry was doing things at church and for otheres, but never really considered doing it for your kids. I am almost done - 3 more chapters to go and I think I'm gonna finish this one and attempt to read it again!

Another blog-friend just wrote about how parenting is a ministry. She must have read that book, too. I'll have to look it up :)

Sounds like a good book. I'll have to look it up! I totally agree with the idea of us ministering to our kids, especially in these critical years where they're at home with us, and want to be around us! Another good read Jenn, is Think Orange by Reggie Joiner. Its about combining the efforts of church and family to create a compatible team-effort in teaching our kids about Jesus. I'm reading through it right now (in all my spare time, yeah right), and loving every minute of it. Its been sitting on my shelf for 8 months!
